'IT'S IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE PLAYERS TO PAY FOR THEIR OWN ROOMS' - Dionisi hits back in hotel stopover furore

Players were allowed home after training to visit their families and told to report at 7.15pm for dinner as Watford resorted to five-star luxury to try and end 270 days without a clean sheet and eight months without a win away from home

It is a stretch to bracket the five-star luxury of Sopwell House - a sumptuous retreat which has hosted Cup final teams and international superstars - with incarceration or lockdown.

But Watford head coach Alessio Dionisi is baffled by talk, emanating from social media, that his players’ two nights in a hotel, in the name of team bonding and unity of purpose, was somehow a boot camp or a punishment for poor results.

And the club is unimpressed by far-fetched ‘intelligence’ that the players would have to foot the bill for their overnight accommodation on Tuesday and Wednesday.

It would also be naive to assume there was 100 per cent approval for the unscripted midweek break in the dressing room.
