The worst week of the season so far. And if the international break doesn’t heal a platoon of injured players and remove the creases in furrowed brows, it could get even worse.
After being outplayed by Stoke, and the dark shadows cast by the sudden death of former goalkeeper Kevin Miller, Watford’s double Player of the Season in the 1990s, a fourth defeat in five games at Bristol City was no surprise.
The Hornets were not so much patched-up but held together with bandages, sticky tape, needle and thread, with both full-backs playing out of position, Iker Bravo helping out in midfield and too many forwards - notably Rocco Vata - looking pale imitations of their former selves.
