ROCKET MAN! When Sir Elton wades in to convey his dismay, you know Watford are bang in trouble

In the last 17 Championship games, Watford have taken just 10 points from a possible 51, they are the division's lowest scorers and the first-half apocalypse against Burnley felt like a tipping point

When luminaries from Sir Elton John to Troy Deeney express dismay at the state of affairs, you know Watford are in big trouble.

Sir Elton is 79 now. He has bought the club twice, and presided over two golden eras. There will not be a third time, so don’t build your hopes up of a Rocket man encore.

But it has reached a tipping point when he posts on Instagram, hours after a lacerating defeat: “As a lifetime supporter of Watford FC, I am very upset and disappointed at the decline over the past few weeks. I really feel for the other supporters who have to watch this.”

From memory, I can only recall two occasions in the last 21 years when Elton’s interventions have been commentaries on the direction of the club.
