MATTIE POLLOCK is Watford’s new captain - and he doesn’t mind ruffling a few feathers, or putting a few noses out of joint, to implement the high standards required.
Pollock takes over the armband from Imran Louza admitting last season’s tailspin from fourth on New Year’s Day to 16th was not good enough.
And he will draw on the experience of working with some strong characters in the Vicarage Road dressing room to demand more backbone, more resilience and an improved culture.
Pollock, whose father Jamie was a robust midfielder with Middlesbrough, Bolton and Manchester City in the 1990s, told Watford’s YouTube channel: It’s something I’m really proud of as I’ve dreamt of being a captain at a football club. For it to be one the size of Watford, it doesn’t get much better.
