GOING UP: The value of Watford's transfer signings has soared in the last five years

Watford’s recruitment has been under the spotlight, mainly for their last-minute brinkmanship in the transfer market to drive a hard bargain and the fitness levels of new signings when they join the payroll.

But according to the respected CIES Football Observatory in Switzerland, one of the game’s leading market analysts, the Hornets are in the top 13 English clubs for appreciation in value of players - excluding home-grown academy talent.

In the last five years, CIES calculates that Watford’s recruitment has been worth a £106.32 million increase in value, placing them above Manchester United, Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal over a comparable period.
