'Get behind the team and let's be realistic' - Dionisi's message to the fans

In golfing terms, Watford's new head coach isn't starting the season with a full set of clubs and the first four games could be like trying to dig his way out of a bunker without a sand wedge - but Alessio Dionisi is ready to give it a full swing off the tee

Leave your negativity at the door, get behind the team and let’s be realistic.

Alessio Dionisi’s keynote message to fans, as the Hornets kick off a 15th League campaign under Gino Pozzo’s ownership, will strike a chord with supporters who accept that no club has a divine right to win promotion - and this season there is certainly no pot of gold to finance it at Watford.

The first four Championship fixtures, against Southampton, Wrexham, West Ham and Swansea, may well serve only to conform with the most pessimistic agenda - that, in golfing terms, Dionisi has been left to play an Open course without enough lofted clubs to dig his way out of the bunkers.
