It was a training session like no other - providing the backing vocals on their superstar chairman’s platinum-selling album.
And almost half a century after their dabble as freelance choristers for Sir Elton John, Watford players still marvel at their day in the recording studio which took them to No.8 in the album charts.
As a tribute to Graham Taylor’s unilateral transformation of a humble club whose pitch was surrounded by a dog track to an upwardly mobile outfit, Elton dedicated his 1978 album A Single Man to the genius of his manager.
The album, which contained hits including Song For Guy, Part Time Love and Shine On Through, was recorded at The Mill studio in Cookham, Berkshire, and was a global hit.
